Development program for youth workers

Happy new year from us all at BYC!~ We hope 2017 is treating you well so far.

We are submitting an Erasmus+ application to support a development program for youth workers that support our work at regional and grassroots level and are seeking partners!~ This is also an amazing opportunity to learn about how the UK Youth Parliament works, and experience the processes. The peer led UK Youth Parliament run an annual youth consultation to find out what’s important to young people, and in 2016 engaged 978,216 young people from every corner of the country in this consultation.~ Following this they run campaigns on the top issues and lobby decision makers to achieve change.

We’d love to have you on board to share your experiences and good practice! ~If you know of anyone within your networks that this may be more suitable to, please feel free to share.

As you may well know – the deadline for applications is looming (2nd February), so if you are interested, please get back to us ASAP.

Project outline:

We will be bringing together youth workers who support youth participation programmes in local councils, for two residential meetings in 2017 (April as part of our flagship Youth Voice Leadership Development Programme and July as part of UK Youth Parliament’s Annual Sitting, held in the UK).

The purpose is to share practice and materials that enable youth workers to support the effective and meaningful involvement of young people locally, and as part our national programme of work. We are expecting approx. 50 staff at the April event, and 100 at the July event from all across the UK.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking expressions of interest for EU partners who are able to share good practice of involving marginalised groups of young people

(11-18 year olds) in decision making locally and nationally, and of measuring/communicating the impact of youth participation to funders and decision makers. Your input could, for example, be in the form of plenary or interactive training in breakout sessions. But we are open to alternative ways of delivery.

Benefits to you:

  • Cover travel and accommodation for a member of staff and young person from the partner organisation
  • Take part in the full youth worker programme, last year included practitioner-led sessions on running youth elections, engaging schools, embedding practice in corporate Planning and Performance cycles, successful tools and tactics for engaging decision makers.
  • An amazing opportunity to learn about how the UK Youth Parliament works, and experience the processes. The UK Youth Parliament run an annual youth consultation to find out what’s important to young people, and in 2016 engaged 978,216 young people from every corner of the country in this consultation.

If you have any questions or would like any more information, please get in touch.
